Doctor Bios

Dr. Michael BaconMichael J. Bacon, D.O.

Dr. Bacon is a family physician who has been active in primary care for the last 37 years in the northern Michigan area.  He attended the University of Michigan as an undergraduate and then went on to Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He did his internship at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital.  He has been active in precepting medical students and residents as an associate clinical Professor at Michigan State University.

Dr. Bacon is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice.  He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons, and American College of General Practitioners, Northeastern Michigan Osteopathic Association, Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, and Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Practice. 

Dr. Bacon has served on the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Foundation Board from 2003 to present.  He has been on the Board of Directors of Northern Michigan Health Systems and also was chairman of the Department of Family Practice at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital.  He has been the Chief of Staff at the Cheboygan Community Memorial Hospital.  He has served as the President of the Northeastern Michigan Osteopathic Association.  He is supported by his wife, Jane, three daughters, Tricia, Kathleen, Maureen, and one grandson, Jack.   He has been active in volunteer work for the local Community Free Clinic and mission trips to Honduras.

 

Dr. Thomas LoomisThomas D. Loomis, M.D.

Dr. Loomis is a family physician who has been active in primary care for the last 12 years in the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area of northern Michigan.  He received his bachelor of arts degree from Anderson University in Indiana and his medical degree from the University of Michigan.  He completed his internship in general surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.  He then went on to complete his residency in family practice at St. Michael’s Hospital in Milwaukee.

Dr. Loomis is a diplomat of the American Academy of Family Physicians.  He is a member of the medical staff at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital and former chairman of the Department of Family Medicine.  He is a deacon and member of the board at his local church.   He is a board member and coach with Northern Michigan Ski Academy.  He makes his home in Petoskey with his wife, Valorie and children Joseph, Benjamin, Hannah, Peter and Rachel.

 

 

Dr. Wendy WalkerWendy H. Walker, M.D.

Dr. Walker is a family physician who has been active in primary care including obstetrics for the last 14 years in the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area of northern Michigan.  She attended the University of Michigan as an undergraduate and then went on to medical school at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine as part of their rural health program, completing her clinical training in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  She completed her residency in family practice at Mid Michigan Regional Hospital in Midland, Michigan.  She has also been active in precepting medical students and residents and has been actively working with the American Academy of Family Physicians in developing the chronic care model of practice in her office setting utilizing an array of information technology, group patient visits and home visits.

Dr. Walker has also served on the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Board of Trustees for the last eight years and is their current chairperson.  In her unique role, she has been able to better understand the breadth of the current healthcare crisis and has been actively promoting a teamwork approach between hospitals and physicians.  She is supported by her husband and three children who also enjoy life in northern Michigan.  She has been active in volunteer work for Avon Walkfor Breast Cancer, the local Community Free Clinic and mission trips to Canada’s northwest territories, Ukraine and Honduras.

 

Dr. Marcin JankowskiMarcin Jankowski, D.O.

Dr. Jankowski is a family physician who has been active in primary care in the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area for 12 years.  He attended Michigan State University for his undergraduate degree in physiology.  He is a 1999 graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.   His internship and residency training took place at Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon, Michigan.

Dr. Jankowski is board certified in family medicine and osteopathic manipulative treatment.  He is supported by his wife and son.  He is active in volunteer work at the Community Free Clinic.  He focuses on the entire person, providing comprehensive, thorough and evidence-based health care for his patients.

KayLynn DeCarli, D.O.

Dr. KayLynn DeCarli is a family physician that has been active in primary care for 8 years. She attended Saint Mary’s College of Notre Dame for her undergraduate degree in humanistic studies. She graduated from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002. She completed her internship and residency in family medicine at Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids.

 Dr. DeCarli is joining us after just having completed four years of active duty military service with the United States Air Force. While in the service, she served as deputy chief of medical staff and supervisor of the women’s health clinic at Grand Forks Air Force Base. Her duties included attending to the needs of active duty, family members and retirees in a busy primary care clinic. She is now very happy to be back in northern Michigan with her husband Steve and their daughters Hanna and Addison.

 

 

drogowski1Mark Drogowski, M.D.

Dr. Drogowski, or "Dr. Mark" as often called by patients, is a family physician who has been active in primary care for 21 years, serving the Cheboygan and Pellston area since he finished his residency training. He specializes in preventive care and care of the entire family, from newborns to grandparents. He attended Albion College as an undergraduate and then went on to medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit. He completed his family medicine residency through the Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals, where he served as chief resident and president of the Michigan Academy of Family Physician Resident Section. It was there that he received an award as one of the top 25 residents in the country. He also served as a clinical instructor for medical students for all four Michigan medical schools and for the Saginaw Family Practice residency program.

Dr. Drogowski is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He has also served in multiple positions as part of Cheboygan Memorial Hospital's medical staff, including chief of staff and chair of credentialing. He actively volunteers at the Northern Care Free Clinic and participates in mission trips and community speaking. This includes speak to schools, churches and different Christian activities. Most importantly, he is supported by his 'best assets', his wife Ann-Laurie and his three sons, Matt, Mike and Dave. When not working, he enjoys the outdoors and bowhunting.

Dr. Steven Konicki is a board certified family physician originally from Cheboygan. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1996 with a B.S. in biology. He then attended Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 2002. He went on to complete his internship and residency at Grand Rapids Metropolitan Hospital in 2005. Before joining LTPC, he practiced in Grand Forks, ND at Altru Hospital from 2005 to 2009 while his wife served in the U.S. Air Force. From 2009 to 2011, he was a staff physician for Northern Michigan Regional Hospital, practing for the Rogers City Medical Group.

He currently lives in Cheboygan with his wife Kaylynn and their two daughters, Hanna and Addison. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, running and gardening.

 

 

Charlotte Michels Asbury, MS, RN, NP-CCharlotte Michels Asbury, MS, RN, NP-C

Charlotte is a board certified family nurse practitioner and has been providing advanced nursing and medical primary health care services in the Little Traverse Bay area since 1995.  Charlotte is a licensed independent health care provider who works on her own and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to help patients at Little Traverse Primary Care.  In addition to diagnosing and managing acute episodic and chronic illnesses, Charlotte emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention.  Her services include individual patient care, routine physicals and well child care, women’s health care, diabetic self management teaching, and smoking cessation assistance to name a few. 

Charlotte has been a registered nurse since 1977.   In 1977, she received her associate of science in nursing from the University of Albuquerque in New Mexico.   In 1981, she received her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Michigan's Traverse City campus.  In 1986, she received her master of science in nursing from Rush University in Chicago.   She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.  Over the years, Charlotte has practiced in several areas of health care including hospital nursing, home health care nursing, and hospice nursing.  Additionally, Charlotte taught nursing courses for the University of Michigan and Lake Superior State University.  She also worked for several years as a home health care consultant and speaker through the Community Health Accreditation Program of The National League for Nursing. Charlotte has served on the board of directors of the Holy Childhood Community Day Care, volunteered for numerous school projects over the years and currently serves as a volunteer provider at the Community Free Clinic.

Charlotte lives in Harbor Springs with her family and enjoys all the “great stuff” that makes living in northern Michigan so special.

 

altRita Balistreri, MSN, RN, FNP-BC

Rita Balistreri is an ANCC board certified family nurse practitioner, with previous clincial experience in intensive care, pediatric intensive care and emergency medicine.  She completed her undergraduate work at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, FL and her master's degree at the University of South Alabama.  During her clinical education, she has worked in partnership with doctors of multiple specialties, such as pediatrics, orthopedics, internal medicine and family practice. 
 

When Rita is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, skiing, running, reading and working in her church's children's ministry.

Emilee Kennedy, MSN, RN, ANP-BC

Emilee Kennedy is an ANCC board certified adult nurse practitioner, with previous clinical experience in medical oncology. She completed her undergraduate work at North Central Michigan College and University of Michigan and her master’s degree at Michigan State University. During her clinical education, she has worked in partnership with doctors that specialized in family practice and internal medicine.
When Emilee is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband Eric and chocolate labs, Zander and Nola. She also enjoys reading and spending time with her family and friends.

 

Dr. Carol EllsteinCarol Ellstein, Ph.D.

Dr. Ellstein is a licensed psychologist who spent her undergraduate and early graduate years at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. She earned a PhD in developmental psychology at Michigan State University and completed an APA-approved post-doctoral clinical internship at the Clinton-Eaton-Ingham Community Mental Health Board (CEI CMHB) in Lansing.  

Dr. Ellstein's professional experience includes 2 years as a school psychologist and 11 years at CEI CMHB, where she provided home-based psychological services to adults with severe developmental disabilities and to families of children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders and behavioral impairments. She established an independent practice in East Lansing in 1997, which she transferred to northern Michigan in 2002. Her current interests include mind-body health, issues of adolescent development, and women’s wellness. Incorporating psychological practice into a primary care setting has been a long-held professional dream.
 
Dr. Ellstein is a past president of both the Michigan Psychological Association and the Michigan Psychological Association Foundation. For several years, she has collaborated with colleagues throughout Michigan to improve rural mental health services.   She and her husband Joe are empty-nesters who enjoy sharing northern Michigan's delights with their two children, grandchildren, and extended network of family and friends.

Ann has been a practicing nurse since 1971 and she is a certified diabetes educator. She obtained her bachelor of science in nursing and her master of science in nursing from the University of Michigan. For the past 16 years, she has specialized in diabetes, focusing on  helping people to better understand diabetes, what they can do to manage it and how to reduce their risk for problems associated with it. Ann has worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, home health, community health and physician offices. She is currently the president elect of the Michigan Association of Diabetes Educators and is also a volunteer nurse at the Community Free Clinic.
 
In this newly created role of nurse care manager/diabetes educator at Little Traverse Primary Care, she will work closely with all the members of the clinical team and will be a resource for patients in achieving their goals for better health.
 
Ann loves spending time with her husband, daughter and their two dogs. She also enjoys gardening, golf and being outdoors.
